    History
    1976

    Madeicentro began operating in October 1976 under the name Coutinho & Marinhas Lda. Its purpose was to import and sell exotic timber.

    Initially it had 600 000 escudos shareholder’s equity, which was held in three equal shares by the following shareholders: Mr Alberto de Bastos Coutinho, Mr António de Oliveira Marinha and Mr Celestiano de Oliveira Marinha.

    The 80s

    In 1982, the company changed its name to Madeicentro - Estância e Serração de Madeiras Exóticas, Lda. and in parallel the shareholder's equity was raised to 10.5 million escudos, divided into equal shares.

    The following year, the shareholder’s capital was once again raised to 15 million escudos. Hence each shareholder's share was worth 5 million escudos (nominal value).

    In 1989, shareholder Alberto de Bastos Coutinho divided his share into two equal parts and assigned them to the other shareholders. In 1989, the company purchased its first kiln for drying timber, thus expanding the scope of its activity to timber seasoning

    The 90s

    In 1992, the shareholder’s equity was significantly increased to € 523.740, which enabled the company to make some investments in 1993l, allowing it to expand the scope of activity.

    Responding to customer needs, the company started processing the raw-material into value-added products, such as wood flooring, linings and lamparquet, and in parallel the Finished Product Unit was founded.

    The company started working with developers and real estate operators, thus expanding its field of activity to construction, particularly in terms of property development. The construction department was hence founded.

    2000: The certification process of the Finished Product Unit was launched.

    2001: The company obtained SGS certification of the Finished Product Unit. The shareholder’s equity was once again increased to € 3.000.000 and new members joined the company: Luís António Almeida Marinha, Manuel Augusto Ferreira Marinha, Dina Maria Almeida Marinha and Cláudia Sofia Almeida Marinha.

    2002: A new process for NP EN ISO 9001:2000 quality certification was initiated;

    2003: Madeicentro - Divisão de Produto Acabado was awarded quality certification under NP EN ISO 9001:2000.

    The company reached its current size by expanding its core business, which enabled it to develop widespread customer portfolio, particularly in Lisbon and in the country’s central region (including several small and medium-sized saw-mills).
